This micro-fic is part of an ongoing web serial, which will be updated every hour today from noon till midnight, when the regular weekly #fridayflash gets posted.  If you are new to Nox and Grimm, you can Click Here to read from the beginning.

For a change, Nox was the one pacing and Loki was sitting still. “Aller avec Dieu… avec, that means with.” She impatiently shoved a stray lock of hair back off her face.  “Be with, go with…damn. I know I’ve heard her say that phrase before.”

“You know, I would never have guessed your mother spoke another language. She has no accent,” Loki said.

“She used a spell to learn our language from father when she first came to this dimension. So she speaks exactly like him.”

“I guesst that makes sense,”  he said. “Are you sure this Dieu isn’t a book?”

“No, she always referred to it as if it were a person, or an entity of some sort.  Sorcerers make pacts with otherworldly beings when they need more power to cast a spell.  It may be one she’s familiar with, and thought would help. I don’t think I can make a pact, though. They usually involve a claim on your soul, and mine is already bound to Grimm.”

I would not let you barter your soul, even if it were not bound to mine.”  The hound materialized near the door, with a wicker basket full of books at his paws. “I grabbed a few extras that looked like they might be useful. I did not see anything written by Dieu.”

“Crud. I guess we had better get back to translating,” she said, with a heavy sigh.

Yes, her mother is french. I figured since she is about 350 years old, she can’t be from the US. And there certainly weren’t any blond sorceresses amongst the native americans back then, so europe it is 🙂
